DFFCL'S GREATEST BUSTS, BLUNDERS, & BONEHEAD MOVES
The DFFCL would not be what it is today without the disastrous decision making of its owners. As a result, please take a look at some of the worst draft picks, free agent acquisitions, trades, and last second starts in the history of the DFFCL.
Bo Scafe: 2009,Week 16:
- In the Championship Match of 2009, Smelly Squad faced Virgil's. Smelly Squad had instability at the TE position and had to start a Free Agent and hope for the best. SS ended up picking up Todd Heap off the Waiver Wire, put Heap in his starting line-up, and did not change his lineup for the next 4 days. Nonetheless, on game day, inexplicably, SS dropped Heap and picked up Tennessee's Bo Scafe. Bo would go on to have no receptions and zero fantasy points. What makes this start one of the biggest blunders in DFFCL history? Heap had 2 Touchdowns and Smelly lost the Championship by less than five points.
Virgil's
Randy Moss: 2007, 1st Round, 7th Pick
- The dreaded 7th Pick curse reared its ugly head as Eric went with the lowest-risk, safest player left on the board. Randy Moss was coming off one of the best seasons of a 3-year stretch where his WORST season was 1008 yards and 11 TDs. Like clockwork, Randy went from all-world WR to playing 4 games with NE, 8 games with TENN, and 4 games with MINN. He finished the year with 28 Receptions and less than 400 yards. One of the worst 1st round non-injury related disasters of all time.
Tatum Bell: 2006, 3rd Round, 8th Pick
Frank Gore: (3rd Round Draft Pick, 2015)
- Frank Gore was drafted by Pincus in the 3rd Round of the 2014 draft. Frank Gore was then used as a punchline by Virgil's for the following 16 weeks. Fast forward to the 3rd Round of the 2015 draft and after making fun of Scott P. for over a year regarding Frank Gore... Virgil's drafts Frank Gore in of all rounds... THE THIRD ROUND. Frank Gore was a disaster in his first year in Indy, fumbling on the one yard line, fumbling in multiple games, and having Virgil feeling like a Gorepocrit all year long.
- Matt Jones started one week for Virgil's and he was a DISASTER. Virgil's therein held onto Matt Jones because of the astronomical investment used to sign him. Eventually, maybe 6-8 weeks later, Matt Jones was dropped by Virgil's and immediately picked up by FCYU out of spite. FCYU then turned and STARTED MATT JONES AGAINST VIRGIL'S, WHERE MATT JONES WOULD GO ON TO TOTAL 187 YARDS AND A TOUCHDOWN in a YIMMY blowout of Virgil's.
FC Yimmy United
Brian Westbrook: 2nd Round Draft Pick, 2nd Pick, 2009.
- The biggest draft blemish in the storied history of FCYU.
New York Jets Defense: Week 13, 2016.
- The NYJ had an atrocious defense. The Indianapolis Colts had an atrocious offensive line. The two teams were meeting on Monday Night Football and with his LPL status hanging in the balance, Little Xiouzy Seinfeld turned to the NYJ defense to score him some big points. On the other side of Xiouzy's matchup stood Virgil's and TY Hilton. Unfortunately, the NYJ Defense (who hadn't had one total sack in their previous three games combined) unsurprisingly got lit up by Andrew Luck and the Colts. Not only did Luck go off... but TY did as well. In an epic and rare Monday Night comeback for Virgil's, TY Hilton scored 27 points and the NYJ defense scored -1 (yes, that is a negative one) to clinch Xiouzy's LPL status and banish him from the DFFCL.
Tom Brady: 2012, 5th Pick, 1st Round;
- Back in the good ol' days, most DFFCL owners used to Mock Draft the fuck out of fantasy football. 2012 was no different. As the top of the first round was fairly predictable, so was taking Calvin Johnson (in his prime) at the number 5 spot. Calvin was the no-brainer pick and the unanimous first WR off the board as evidenced in "Expert Rankings" and Mock Drafts alike. Fast forward to the DFFCL draft. After taking Calvin Johnson in every single Mock Draft and planning the rest of his draft strategy as if he was taking Calvin Johnson, Oren decided to "Entertain" and take Tom Brady at the 5th spot. The ramifications of this pick had a domino effect on the rest of the league. Tom Brady got hurt and missed the entire season. Calvin Johnson (who went to Craig with the very next pick) would go on to have one of the greatest seasons for a WR in NFL history and would lead Craig to a Championship.
Wes Welker: 2014, 10th Pick, 5th Round:
- Oren drafted Wes Welker as his WR1, in the 5th round. Unfortunately, Wes Welker was a walking corpse by this time in his career. In fact, it was such common knowledge that Welker was no longer healthy enough to be fantasy relevant that the entire DFFCL erupted in laughter when Oren drafted him. Welker would go on to play in 14 games for Denver, starting only 8 of them. He had less than 500 yards receiving for the first time since his rookie year and played sparingly for the Rams the following year before retiring.
-Andre Ellington and Zac Stacy over Le'Veon Bell: 2014, 1st pick, 4th Round:
- Oren drafted Andre Ellington and Zac Stacy with back-to-back picks with the last pick of the 3rd round and first pick of the 4th round. Virgil's, who was praying to the Fantasy Lords that Oren would botch his two pick, was given the mitzvah of the century by Oren. Thereafter, Eric scooped up Le'Veon Bell with the 3rd pick of the 4th Round and rode him to the Championship Game.
- Antonio Brown traded for Golden Tate and Carlos Hyde; October 18, 2018.
- After Week 6, Oren convinced himself that, due to having multiple players on a bye and due to his 0-6 record, that he HAD to make a trade to save his season. In classic Oren fashion, he decided that the only way to facilitate such a trade would be to offer up his best player (who was on a bye in week 7), Antonio Brown. Oren then negotiated with multiple league owners, rejecting all offers but one . Yoni, who at that point was 5-1, offered his 3rd best WR and his bench player at the time, Carlos Hyde. Oren, not knowing that CLE had just drafted Nick Chubb to be the future of the CLE rushing attack, and that Carlos Hyde was expendable to CLE, thought he was getting two season long starters for his 1st round pick and best player. Two guys that hit their prime 4 years ago for the best WR in the NFL... the trade went through and the DFFCL will never be the same. Yoni ended up riding Antonio Brown and DeAndre Hopkins to a playoff berth (which he almost missed out on) and a championship. Oren... well, his end of the trade is truly the most appropriate thing that could have ever happened to ANYONE dumb enough to make this trade. THE VERY NEXT DAY after the trade, on October 19, Carlos Hyde was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars to BACKUP Leonard Fournette. He was truly an irrelevant fantasy player for the rest of the season. On October 30, 2018, less than two weeks after trading for Golden Tate, Tate was traded to PHI where he would only have one more relevant game all season.
Pincus Franchise
Traded Le'Veon Bell for Hakeem Nicks: 2013
- At the time, Scott attempted to justify this trade by saying that he had to make a trade to save his season as his WR's were not cutting it. That being said, as the weeks went by, the trade that looked lopsided when it was made looked even worse. Not only did Scott trade Le'veon Bell to the one seed who would go on to win the league; Hakeem was a disaster for Pincus who maybe started him one week. Go look at the game logs for Le'Veon Bell and Hakeem Nicks for 2013. The fact that Scott would do this trade, nonetheless do this trade with a team at or near the top of the standings, goes to show that Pincus was, is, and will forever be... Team... Craig.
